“Unmotivated misunderstandings”. Giosi Ferrandino asks, Antonio Carotenuto resigns

The departure from the Council of the deputy mayor and councilor of the Municipality of Casamicciola Terme Antonio Carotenuto had been in the air for several days. The "rift" with some members of the majority of the mayor Giosi Ferrandino had already occurred and on Monday the lawyer submitted his irrevocable resignation, as requested by the mayor.

It is a moment, as we have already highlighted, in which, for various reasons, more than one mayor of the island finds himself having to deal with "heavy" resignations, whether wanted or not. From the "harbor case" in Forio involving Stani Verde, to the exit from the political scene of the deputy mayor of Serrara Fontana Rosario Caruso for personal and work reasons, which Irene Iacono has already "remedied" with the appointment of Eugenio Carlo Mattera as deputy mayor and the entry into the council of Antonio Galano. As for Casamicciola, the highlighted contrasts within the municipal administration, to which Carotenuto expressly refers in his letter of resignation addressed to the mayor, could only produce this consequence. Giosi "invited" him to resign and he is leaving. From the "let's love each other" of the electoral campaign and the first months of administration to the divorce. An almost “usual” scenario that few administrative groups escape, when one moves on to govern the country and clashes on various issues.

In 2023, Carotenuto, who at the time of mayor Giovanbattista Castagna had been for a very short period liquidator of “Marina di Casamicciola”, with the appointment as deputy mayor and councilor had been given the delegation to Budget, Taxes and Economic Planning; as well as Strategic Planning for the development of the territory; Infrastructure and transport; Legal affairs; PNRR funds; Public service transport from the square and NCC; Agriculture – hunting – fishing.

Today the predictable and announced “rupture” was formalized with the letter of resignation as councilor.

«Most Illustrious Mr. Mayor – writes Carotenuto -, having taken note of the unmotivated misunderstandings, known to you, between the undersigned and some members of your majority, probably attributable to the role I hold in the Council, following the last conversation between us from which an objective operational difficulty of the executive body emerged, in order to avoid that this situation may harm the interests of the country in such a particularly delicate moment of economic/social relaunch and recovery of the entire community, I cannot but accept your request to put an end to these misunderstandings through my resignation.

Therefore, in thanking you for the trust and esteem you have placed in me, also thanking all the staff of the Municipality of Casamicciola and its subsidiaries, who through their collaboration have allowed me to carry out my mandate in the interest of the country in this short but intense period of work, as well as the municipal councilors who have supported me, I formally and irrevocably resign from the office I hold".

Certainly certain political “quarrels” do not benefit any reality, but in Casamicciola, which must face problems that are certainly more complex than the other municipalities on the island, they benefit even less…
